The teachers role according to Thornbury

The fact that the text contains examples of X, Y and Z features of English grammar is not of much use to language learners a) if they don’t notice these features, and b) if they don’t know how representative, typical, frequent, generative, etc these features are. That is where the teacher comes in. It is by means of the teacher’s expertise that these features are ‘unlocked’
